Tour operators and coach companies

Every year we are pleased to see that an increasing number of tour operators and coach companies include a visit to the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway as part of their annual holiday programme. It’s easy to see why. Not only does the experience of travelling on a heritage railway hauled by a steam locomotive evoke many memories, but add to this a gentle trip through the glorious Cotswold countryside and you have the prescription for a perfect day out. The return trip takes about an hour and a half, the single trip about 35 minutes.

Toddington Station is situated just 5 miles from Broadway, 12 miles from Stow on the Wold and is easily accessible from the M5 motorway junction 9. Plenty of parking is available and passengers can leave the coach just yards from the train platform.

Cheltenham Race Course station also with plenty of parking, is situated in the grounds of the racecourse itself about a mile out of town.  Please note that the platform is in a cutting next to the car park and is reached by a slope. On some dates, and especially on race days, there can be a queue waiting to get into the racecourse, so please allow extra time on these dates.

Generous discounts are available for groups who book in advance, and for parties of 20 or more, we quote approximately 15% off our standard prices. We will be happy to discuss your requirements and we try to tailor our pricing  according to your requirements. For instance if you don’t differentiate between different age groups when pricing your tours, we can quote one single price. Just let us know. The courier and if applicable, the driver, can of course travel free with your party, or the driver can alternatively obtain a refreshment voucher at the station for use at our tea rooms in Toddington – the Flag and Whistle.

If possible, we ask that you book seats at least three weeks in advance of travel and for this purpose you can download a group booking form from the website or complete it and send it by e mail attachment to Grouptravel@gwsr.com. We will then send you a travel authorisation by e mail and ensure seats are reserved for your party on the appropriate train. We don’t ask for a deposit but in order to keep our expenses as low as possible, we do ask for payment in full either during the week preceding or on the day of travel itself, by credit card or cheque payable to GWSR plc.

There is a buffet car on every train serving a selection of snacks and drinks, but if you would wish to pre-book refreshments on the train, please let us know what you would like either by email to the above address or at the time you send in the form. We will then get back to you to discuss details. Alternatively, our tea rooms at Toddington - the Flag and Whistle - will be happy to provide whatever meal you may require.
